Camel Bar started as a bar for local rock and roll bands to meet, perform, listen to music and drink. Our tastes have got more varied, but it's still all about the music. We now play a vast selection of rock and roll, hip hop, house, soul, funk, punk, blues and ska. Check the website for announcements of special events, including parties, frequent gigs from local and out of town bands, as well as guest DJ's. If you've got the skills, bring you're instruments any time for an impromptu jam - usually a few characters up for it.
When the old Camel Bar on Dongeng Donglu was turned into part of an unusually ugly shopping center 3 years ago, we moved to bigger premises on Tuodong Lu. Just next to the Greenery Hotel, it's within a few minutes walk of the Sakura and Camellia Hotels. Open 24 hours a day, it is on two floors, with the main bar and dance floor on the ground floor and a more relaxed lounge upstairs.
At the bar we serve cold local and foreign beers priced from 6-15RMB and a wide range of cocktails and shots from the best barman bar man in the city for around 10-15RMB. Avoid the flaming B-52'.
Upstairs in coffee heaven we have a serious selection of fresh ground coffees, from Blue Mountain to Brazilian to our own Yunnan coffee. Fuck Starbucks - we serve it strong. If you're lounging in the afternoon, there is an English language bookshelf featuring guidebooks, history and fiction. You're welcome to browse them, but get caught stealing and we'll rip you a new one.
We have got a bilingual menu, with a wide selection of foreign and Chinese food. Western- favourites include pizzas, steaks, pasta and sandwiches made with homemade bread - try the sloppy joe.
We also make authentic Kunming food - let us know if you can't handle chilli, as it's cooked for local tastes - don't expect seaweed and lemon chicken. Prove you're sophistication by going for the fried ribs, 'toothpick' beef, fried veggies and eggs, beef and vegetable hotpot, or spicy rice noodle soup.
If you don't appreciate smoke, drunken dancing or late nights, please don't come during the weekend.
